The Pelican Bay Foundation of Naples, Fla., unveiled a new solar/electric tram system to reduce the impact of visitors on the ecosystem.
The tram is expected to provide 800,000 rides to residents and visitors annually through Pelican Bay's 43 acres of parks, recreation, beachfront, and boardwalk facilities. Each tram will reduce the carbon footprint by over 500 pounds of CO2 annually, and replacing the entire fleet with approximately 40 trams will result in a net carbon abatement of over 22,000 pounds of CO2 annually. Also, the tram batteries are powered directly from the sun.
The Inn at Pelican Bay has 3,600 square feet of indoor meeting space, along with beachfront event space and a lakeside courtyard.
