Another angle on the Meetings Matter messaging that took over Las Vegas on Global Meetings Industry Day.
To celebrate the power of meetings, Meeting Professionals International each year draws the world together online with a 12-hour virtual event. Here, Rachel Andrews, head of global events for Cvent, spoke on developing an institutional event-program process. She explained how her division categorizes meetings by objectives, types, and tiers, and then assigns them to event teams for marketing, build-out, and results/KPI measurement. One of GMID’s goals is to raise the profile of meetings and events in the minds of lawmakers. For Congressman Andre Carson from Illinois, however, that message is already clear. He posted: “Indianapolis is home to one of the best convention centers in the nation and a welcoming community to host great meetings and events. On this Global Meetings Industry Day, I am proud of the impact meetings have made in boosting our economy and creating over 13,900 jobs in our city. #GMID2024”
New York City is a strong supporter of the GMID message, with buildings around the city displaying blue lighting to recognize the power of meetings. Here’s how the city’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center showed off its support for the cause.

The Professional Convention Management Association’s Philadelphia chapter held an educational event for GMID that included students from the School of Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management at Temple University. Christine Cleaver, program director, posted her enthusiasm around student participation.
