In the aftermath of the mega storm that devasted a swath of Florida’s Gulf coast, readers grabbed for all the information they could get. Here’s our report from September 29, “Hurricane Ian Damages Florida’s Peak Meetings Season.”
Our planner-sourced shoe gallery ran right before the start of IMEX America, when everyone was wondering how their feet would survive walking miles in Las Vegas and on the exhibit floor. For some winning suggestions, read “Comfortable Shoes for the Show Floor: 2022 Edition” from October 4.
While 2022 was the year many planners finally put Covid-19 protocols in the rearview mirror, it was still top of mind for some as indicated by two very popular posts:
“Puerto Rico Loosens Covid Restrictions” (February 1)
“With a Covid Uptick, Could Group-Gathering Rules Tighten Again?” (March 21)
MeetingsNet’s six-part report in May on planners’ sources of stress and their coping strategies hit a nerve with readers dealing with staff shortages, a sellers’ market, virtual meetings, and more. On MeetingsNet.com, start the series here: “Planners at Their Breaking Point” or read it in the June edition of the MeetingsNet digital magazine.
Readers consistently dig into our venue news stories in large numbers. In 2022, the resort story that grabbed the most attention was about the 1,200-room VAI Resort in Glendale, Ariz., opening in late 2023. (When we wrote the item, the opening was scheduled for spring 2023.) Read our May 13 report on the property here: “Biggest Resort in Arizona Coming to Glendale in 2023.”
Two other destination stories that saw big readership numbers:
“Two Top Convention Cities Getting New Airport Terminals”
“New Kansas City Airport Set for Spring 2023 Opening”
Our annual report on the largest of the third-party planning companies is a unique resource for organizations looking for a planning partner. Read the 2022 CMI 25 report in the September issue of the MeetingsNet digital magazine or online here on MeetingsNet.com
It surprised us a bit when “5 Lessons for Planners from the Oscars Swag Bag” (March 28) ranked as a top-performing story on MeetingsNet for 2022. But then again, who wouldn’t want to know what goodies the stars are bringing home after the show?
It takes a while to get enough experience to earn the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation or a Certificate in Meeting Management (CMM), so plenty of readers were interested in an early mark of their planning professionalism: “New Credential for Emerging Planners.” (June 7)
The strong sellers’ market isn’t just making it difficult to find an available and affordable meeting site. In some cases, planners are finding that hotels are relocating their meetings when a more attractive piece of business comes along. In “Hotels Chase the Money, Leave Groups in the Lurch” (November 29), attorney Joshua Grimes discusses how your hotel contract can be written to protect your organization.
Right now, all you need is a passport and an airline ticket to jump on a plane to Europe. However, that will change in May 2023, so it’s no surprise that plenty of readers wanted to know about “New Requirement for Americans Traveling to the E.U.” (February 22) However, the date when ETIAS applications will need to be submitted has been postponed since our article in February. Read an update here.
