The Langham, Chicago—The last high-rise designed by the legendary architect Mies van der Rohe will soon be home to The Langham, Chicago, set to open in the summer. Highlights will include the Palm Court restaurant, serving afternoon tea, and fabulous water views from the 52-story tower. The hotel is steps away from Chicago River jetty, where guests can board river cruises. The 9,000-square-foot Chuan Spa will offer treatments based on the principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Omni Nashville Hotel—The new headquarters hotel for Nashville's Music City Center, a new 1.2-million-square-foot convention center (opening in May 2013), will open in the fall and is already being billed as Nashville’s finest meeting hotel. Highlights will include a steakhouse, Mokara Spa, and a rooftop pool that will be ideal for functions. Quad Resort & Casino, Las Vegas—A huge transformation is taking place in Las Vegas: the renovation and rebranding of the Imperial Palace, a Caesars property. Both interior and exterior renovations—touching everything from the building's exterior façade to the porte cochere, front lobby, casino floor, retail promenade, and dining levels—will take place throughout 2013 and are expected to wrap before the end of year. El Encanto, Santa Barbara, Calif.—A head-to-toe renovation of this iconic hotel (part of the Orient-Express Hotels portfolio) has Californians buzzing. The lush setting offers sweeping views of the coastline and the bungalows could not be more richly appointed, with in-room fireplaces, French doors overlooking bougainvillea gardens, plus fountains, butler service, and, of course, the Spa El Encanto. The Godfrey Hotel, Chicago—You’ll know the Godfrey when you see it, a series of staggered cubes stretching upward in Chicago's River North neighborhood, the work of architect David Jennerjahn of Chicago-based Valerio Dewalt Train. Highlights will include a chef-driven restaurant, a lobby bar, a spa and 24-hour fitness center, and an indoor/outdoor rooftop lounge. Event space accommodates up to 400 guests. Opening in late 2013.

Manhattan Park Hyatt—Hyatt Hotels Corp. will open its first luxury hotel in New York, designed by world-renowned Pritzker Prize–winning architect Christian de Portzamparc. The property, on West 57th Street across from Carnegie Hall, is part of a 90-story mixed-use tower that will also feature condominiums overlooking Central Park. Highlights will include a restaurant/bar, spa, and indoor swimming pool in a three-story glass-enclosed space at the top of the hotel. Salamander Resort & Spa, Middleburg, Va.—Gracious. Relaxed. Respectful of the past. Those are terms being used to describe this new resort, opening in August just a 30-minute drive from Washington Dulles International Airport. Highlights include Salamander Spa, golf privileges on nearby courses, and a 110-seat equestrian-themed restaurant featuring Virginia Piedmont regional cuisine. Interesting group spaces include a 120-year-old stallion barn, and groups of up to 30 have access to the resort’s private hospitality suite at the Verizon Center, home to Washington, D.C.’s NBA, NHL, and WNBA teams. Andaz Maui at Wailea—Maui’s popular Wailea Resort will get a new addition this summer with the Andaz, a Hyatt brand. The property, which has been vacant since September 2007, was formerly the Renaissance and, before that, the Stouffer Wailea. All three guest wings of the original hotel are being remodeled, and special features will include Morimoto Maui, a restaurant run by Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, as well as four infinity pools and a spa.

Ace Hotel, Los Angeles—Downtown L.A. just keeps getting cooler and hotels just keep getting hipper. As with the Ace Hotels (Portland, Seattle, New York, and Palm Springs), sometimes described as “so hip it hurts.” All have breathed life into historic buildings, which is what will happen in L.A. in the fall when the Ace Hotel opens in the historic United Artists theater building on Broadway, originally built by United Artists founders Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, Mary Pickford, and D.W. Delano Las Vegas at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas—
The same hotel brand that transformed Miami’s South Beach is coming to Las Vegas in late 2013. The new Delano at Mandalay Bay will take over the 64-story “The Hotel” tower as the result of a partnership between MGM Resorts International and Morgans Hotel Group. The resort's suites, public spaces, and spa will be renovated, and Morgans will introduce new restaurants including an American bistro by chef Brian Massie and a Japanese restaurant by chef Akira Back.
