First-Ever Science Festival
Category: Best Public Event
Winner: Destination South Meetings & Events, a DMC Network Company
Destination South Meetings & Events managed the first-ever Atlanta Science Festival, developing the sponsor program, building the exhibitor package, and managing everything from security, to sanitation, to entertainment. The DMC had to implement its weather contingency plan and bring the event indoors, but nevertheless drew 15,000 people, three times the original goal.

Nutro’s Teamwork for Families

Winner: (tie) factor 110 | Destination Oklahoma
For Nutro, a pet food company, factor 110 | Destination Oklahoma organized an event to help rebuild the Orr Family Farm, a family attraction in Moore, Okla., damaged by a deadly tornado. As part of Nutro’s annual sales meeting, 150 volunteers spent four hours building fences, removing debris, building dog houses, and other activities to help get the farm’s animal barn, pony rides, ziplines, carousel, and more up and running.

Florida Meeting Services brought 170 corporate volunteers to Virginia Key, a barrier island two miles east of Miami, for a restoration project. Teams helped to plant butterfly gardens, remove exotic species and debris, and clear paths.

In addition to the teambuilding award, the event for pet food company Nutro at Orr Family Farm organized by factor 110 | Destination Oklahoma won ADME’s Achievement Award for best corporate social responsibility event. Accent Indy developed and coordinated 19 tours for the Lionel Collectors Club of America’s 44th annual convention in Indianapolis. The DMC stepped up its game to create specialized, train-lover’s tours that showcased the city and the area for LCCA’s 1,261 attendees.

Despite several challenges, including a covered bridge that made access to the pavilion difficult, the evening went off with style.

The client wanted an authentic Bayou experience that they’d never forget, and BBC brought it in spades, with lively Zydeco music, Louisiana fare by awarding-winning Chef Donald Link, and more 350 pairs of rainboots. (The weather didn’t cooperate, so boots were handed out to save guests’ footwear.)

Capitol Services Inc. created a never-been-done-before “Concert in the Park” for 6,000 guests on the plaza between Washington, D.C.’s Carnegie Library and the Washington Convention Center. Food trucks lined the streets exclusively for the event. For the first time this year, ADMEI members selected a Member’s Choice winner from among the Achievement Awards, and Capitol Services’ Concert in the Park also took home this prize.

AWG Destination Services provided shuttle services for 45,000 concert-goers each night at the giant Electric Daisy Carnival, an electronic music festival in Las Vegas. Covering the route between 12 hotels and the concert venue required 470 buses, which meant contracts with more than 37 vendors, many from out of state.
