Sometimes we’re lucky enough to meet fellow travelers like these on the road to our little log cabin on a lake in Greenville, Me. It’s a five-hour drive from Boston, so once we get there, we really feel we are “away.” (Of course, we did still install Wi-Fi!) This dirt road is the home stretch.

Went home to Oregon for a dear friend's wedding in June.  There's nothing like the joy found in the fertile Pacific Northwest.

I took my holiday early this year—in January. Technically, it was summer ... in Australia! I first went to Melbourne to attend the Australian Open, which completed my fan Grand Slam (attendance at all four major tennis tournaments). Next was a drive along Great Ocean Road to see the 12 Apostles (pictured). The following week, I hopped a plane to Cairns where I took a day trip snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef, and then concluded my holiday after flying down to Sydney to visit long-time friends.

My wife Nancy and I spent a great vacation week at Rosemary Beach, Fla. The white sand and aqua blue water were perfect for us as we entertained our six-month-old golden puppy Jackson.

This year we took the family to the mountains of Colorado, where we spent time mountain biking, hiking, fossil hunting, white-water rafting, and zip lining. Everyone had a great time. We also went to the beach a few times to get our feet wet and accidentally swam with sharks.

For my entire life, I've spent time each summer at my own personal paradise/oasis retreat, the Chautauqua Institution, which is located in Western New York. That tradition has continued with my own family as we travel to Chautauqua each July. It's always a time to reconnect with old friends, spend quality family time, and also add in some learning from the incredible programming that exists there each summer.
