This spring, COEX, Seoul’s giant convention and exhibition center, introduced beacon technology as part of a new mobile solution for organizing and navigating events at the center. The technology will aid planners and attendees both, with tools for exhibition planning and show registration as well as an exhibition map (and a system to guide visitors to the booths), on-site business matching, and data analysis of visitor movement around the exhibition.
The mobile solution launched in March for use at COEX-owned exhibitions and will be available to outside organizers later this year. COEX offers four exhibit halls (two of them 111,600 square feet and the others about one-third smaller) and 54 meeting rooms, including four tiered theaters (the largest of which has 1,080 seats). The center totals 5 million square feet overall.
Earlier this year, the center opened two Muslim prayer rooms, one for men and one for women, as a convenience to its Muslim guests. The rooms include Korans, clocks, carpets, and a Qibla, which indicates the direction toward Mecca.
