Although the automobile industry is sputtering, a new industry event is hoping to gain traction in Indianapolis.

The International Motorsports Industry Show will debut December 2-3, 2009, at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The show, owned by Performance Events Promotions in conjunction with the Indiana Motorsports Association, is targeted at professionals who work in the auto racing industry, including manufacturers of sports cars. "It will showcase only companies dealing with professional motorsports competing wheel to wheel on a race course,” stated Chris Paulsen, president, Indiana Motorsports Association and co-partner at PEP, in a press release. “Basically, if it's not directly related to helping a race team take the checkered flag, it won't be displayed at IMIS."

Indianapolis was selected as the site because of its rich racing heritage. It’s Indianapolis Motor Speedway is home to the famed Indianapolis 500 race, Paulsen explained. And this year, Indianapolis Motor Speedway celebrates its 100th anniversary.

In addition to the trade show, the meeting will also feature education for industry members and technical training seminars.
