This gaming-focused property boasts plenty of meeting space.
The Talking Stick Resort, located on the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community in Scottsdale, opened in April, with the official debut this June. The 15-story property features 497 guest rooms as well as more than 100,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor conference space. It also includes a 13,000-square-foot spa, a cigar and wine bar, three bars, and eight restaurants, including Ocean Trail, which is on the top level and has 360-degree views. The gaming and entertainment venue is the main attraction, offering a variety of high-tech slot machines, table games, and more. Talking Stick Resort also features Native American design and exhibits throughout the property.
The 1,002-room JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa welcomed its first guests in late January 2010. Set on 600 acres 30 minutes from downtown San Antonio, the resort is the world's largest JW Marriott property. Meeting venues at the resort include a 40,000-square-foot grand ballroom, a 21,000-square-foot junior ballroom, a 40,000-square-foot exhibit hall, plus 19 breakout rooms and three outdoor event venues. There are two championship golf courses, designed by Pete Dye and Greg Norman; a 26,000-square-foot spa; and water features that include a 650-foot rapid river ride.
The Makena Beach & Golf Resort in Makena, Maui, unveiled its newest event venue, the Makena Vista, in January. The venue is a shuttle ride from the resort and can accommodate up to 150 guests. The 310-room resort offers an 18-hole championship golf course, more than 12,500 square feet of indoor meeting space for up to 500 guests, outdoor space that can accommodate 600 guests, five dining facilities, two pools, a fitness center, and a tennis club.
The Allison Inn & Spa in Newberg, Ore., opened last September. The 85-room hotel features 15,000 square feet of meeting space, including a 4,500-square-foot ballroom, a signature restaurant, a spa with 12 treatment rooms, and a fitness studio. The Allison is one of only 25 hotels n the world to have attained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification.
In Harris, Mich., the 162-room Island Resort & Casino's convention center will begin a $2 million expansion project in July that is expected to be complete by April 2011. The convention center will expand from 9,500 square feet to 17,400 square feet. In addition, the Sweetgrass Golf Club, which opened in 2008, recently was named “Best Casino Course in America” by Golfweek magazine.
Doral Golf Resort & Spa, a Marriott Resort, in Miami, has recently completed a $16 million renovation. The 693-room hotel added the par-70 Jim McLean Signature Course, renovated the Spa at Doral, added a lobby bar and Latin-inspired restaurant, and enhanced its other two golf courses. The Doral has 110,000 square feet of meeting space.
In February, South Seas Island Resort on Captiva Island, Fla., opened a new 4,000-square-foot spa, The Kay Casperson Lifestyle Spa & Boutique. The resort features more than 24,000 square feet of indoor meeting space, 104,000 square feet of outdoor space, 470 guest accommodations (from hotel rooms to private homes), a nine-hole golf course, golf clubhouse, 18 pools, a kids' club, and six dining facilities.
The Salish Lodge & Spa in Snoqualmie, Wash., completed a multimillion-dollar renovation in January to its 89 guest rooms. The lodge features three dining options, 6,600 square feet of meeting space in five meeting rooms for groups of up to 180, and The Spa at Salish Lodge. It is 30 minutes east of Seattle.
The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain, in Marana, Ariz., near Tucson, opened in December. The property features 250 guest rooms, a 27-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, four restaurants, a spa, fitness center, three ballrooms, and five meeting rooms.
The Little Nell hotel in Aspen, Colo., recently completed a $20 million renovation project.
The Ritz-Carlton, San Francisco, has named Reggie Dominique director of sales and marketing. Since 2007, he had been director of sales and marketing at The Ritz-Carlton, Palm Beach in Florida.
Ty W. Brassie, previously with Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Inc., has joined the Palm Springs landmark, Riviera Resort & Spa, as its new director of sales and marketing.
