Florida takes a hit with cancelled medical meetings

Among those who had to cancel or postpone their Florida meetings due to the hurricanes is GlaxoSmithKline.

the British pharmaceutical company, canceled a meeting at Miami Beach's Fontainebleau Hilton Resort this week that was expected to bring 1,500 people and generate $1.3 million in economic impact, according to county figures.

The Fontainebleau said that the weeklong conference, scheduled to start last Saturday, was called off because of travel complications and that the event would probably be held after the hurricane season has ended.

State officials worry that hurricanes Frances and Charley also may cause potential business to move to other states something they also say other states are working to have happen by playing up Florida s recent troubles. But I don t think they have to worry too much when it comes to medical meetings. Our annual Physician s Survey always seems to place Florida in one of the top slots, this year just behind California, as physicians preferred state to meet in.
