Pharma: sales versus science


Here's an interesting read from How the drug industry abandoned science for salesmanship. (Warning: It contains a graphic from the ad for Lamisil that sends me screaming from the room every time it's aired.) It includes this line:

    Often they encourage unauthorized off-label uses or sponsor "continuing medical education" sessions to stoke more prescriptions and broaden a drug's patient base.

Would someone please talk to Forbes about what CME is—and isn't?
