NOTHING LIKE A HOG

To the Editor,

Your March cover story on Harley-Davidson really captured the spirit of HOG. Riding a Harley is anything but a solitary experience — HOG is a culture, and there's nothing else like it in the world. See you at Loudon in June!

WE'VE COME A LONG WAY

To the Editor,

Beth Negus Viveiros' article, “ADA 2002” (March CMI) is an excellent primer for all meeting planners.

I recall being on a fam trip at a Florida property in late 1991 and asking the sales manager about meeting room access for the disabled. She had absolutely no idea what I was talking about, had never heard of ADA, and suggested that maybe a person in a wheelchair could get to the meeting room in question using the freight elevator through the basement!

Thank goodness these attitudes have changed in the past 10 years!

I'd suggest that when a planner is on a fam trip, they should “walk-the-walk” from front door to meeting room to guest room as if they were wheelchair-bound. You'd be amazed how many architectural barriers still remain.

GOLF PLANNING IS NO GAME

To the Editor,

I just received your annual golf issue (April CMI) and wanted to share an experience I had last year at a resort in the Southeast (to remain nameless) where I organized a small golf outing. I don't play golf and know very little about the game. Few times before have I felt so alienated: The tone of the staff was condescending, no one informed me about left-handed clubs, and I was unaware there was a dress code until we had to purchase an attendee an appropriate collared shirt. I could go on, but I just wanted to say that there's a real need out there for more help. I'm keeping that issue!
