Global Meeting Trends
Global tourism soared to a record performance in 2007 and the outlook remains good despite financial crises and high oil prices, according to the U.N. World Tourism Organisation. In its annual report, the UNWTO said the Middle East recorded the largest percentage increase, surging 13 percent to 46 million arrivals in 2007, followed by the Asia-Pacific region, up 10 percent.
And according to research released by the World Travel & Tourism Council and its strategic partner Accenture, world travel will generate close to $8 trillion in 2008, rising to $15 trillion over the next 10 years.
