Meeting Professionals International's Edwin L. Griffin Jr., CAE, met with Mexico's President Vicente Fox in August to discuss a partnership to help increase Mexico's marketshare as a meeting destination.
The Mexican government has increased security in convention areas and is launching a campaign to promote Mexico as a safe destination. Fox also is supporting legislation that would make meetings in the country tax-exempt.
Fox promised his support of MPI's 2-year-old Mexico City Chapter, which aims to grow membership from 125 to 1,000 people, and encouraged MPI to open an office in Mexico City.
