• A member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, THE HOTEL COMMONWEALTH opened in May 2003 in Boston's Kenmore Square area. The hotel was named one of the Top 10 New Business Hotels of 2003 by Forbes.com. All 150 guest rooms have complimentary T-3 high-speed Internet access and wireless phones that work throughout the hotel, fine Italian bed linens, and CD/DVD players with complimentary DVD lending library. There is 5,000 square feet of meeting space, including a ballroom that seats up to 150 people.

  • In March, the MANDARIN ORIENTAL, WASHINGTON, D.C., opened as part of the Portals development in the southwest section of the city. The hotel has 400 rooms and suites, a ballroom accommodating up to 900 guests, and a variety of meeting rooms. The hotel overlooks the Tidal Basin and the Jefferson Memorial. Last month, the hotel opened its spa, a 10,400-square-foot facility.

  • THE DOUBLETREE HOTEL & EXECUTIVE MEETING CENTER TYSONS CORNER (Va.) has completed the renovation and reconfiguration of its conference space, adding five conference suites for a total of 13,900 square feet of space in its executive conference center. The hotel has 398 guest rooms and is two miles from the West Falls Church Metro station, minutes from the heart of Washington, D.C.

  • InterContinental Hotels Group has unveiled a new boutique lodging brand: HOTEL INDIGO. The first Hotel Indigo, a former Days Inn, is undergoing a $425 million facelift and is scheduled to open in Atlanta by the end of this year. Also in the Atlanta area, INTERCONTINENTAL BUCKHEAD is scheduled to open in November. The 21-story facility will have 423 guest rooms, 23 suites, 26,000 square feet of meeting space, and a 12,000-square-foot grand ballroom.

  • The 220-suite MARRIOTT SUITES CLEARWATER BEACH ON SAND KEY opened in February on Florida's Gulf Coast. The 10-story hotel, formerly the Radisson Suite Resort on Sand Key, has undergone a multimillion-dollar renovation.

  • The AMALFI HOTEL CHICAGO opened earlier this year on Chicago's River North, with 215 guest rooms and two meeting rooms. The boutique hotel offers common areas on each floor where a complimentary breakfast is served.

  • THE ANTLERS AT VAIL (Colo.) has completed a $20 million addition, supplementing its conference space with four new meeting rooms and an executive boardroom. Meeting space now totals 2,200 square feet, all with high-speed Internet access. There is also a new business center, 22 new lodging units, and a fitness center.

  • Completed in fall 2002, TETON MOUNTAIN LODGE in Jackson Hole, Wyo., has 80 condominium suites and 2,200 square feet of meeting space. Less than a mile from Grand Teton National Park, the condo-hotel offers slopeside access to skiing and snowboarding in winter and hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking in summer. Owned by De Vere Hotels of the UK, the resort is one of 32 properties in the United States managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts.

  • In Los Angeles, the LUXE HOTEL SUNSET BOULEVARD has added a 4,500-square-foot ballroom that can accommodate up to 300 people. It can also be divided into four smaller rooms. It is the first new ballroom to open on the west side of Los Angeles since 1991.

  • A September opening is planned for Providence, R.I.'s, first boutique hotel, the 80-room HOTEL PROVIDENCE. In the Arts and Entertainment District, the hotel integrates two historic buildings to create 80 guest rooms and suites. All rooms have complimentary Wi-Fi Internet access, 27-inch TVs, and dual phone lines. Adjacent to the lobby is L'Epicureo, a 150-seat Italian restaurant that has been cited by both Gourmet and Bon Appetit magazines.

  • In December, the MYRTLE BEACH MARRIOTT RESORT AT GRANDE DUNES opened 10 miles north of Myrtle Beach International Airport in the 2,200-acre plantation-style Grande Dunes resort and residential community. The $60 million resort features 45,500 square feet of meeting space; an 8,000-square-foot oceanfront spa; three swimming pools, including South Carolina's first infinity-edged pool; and three restaurants. The 407 guest rooms and suites offer cordless telephones and high-speed Internet access. Meeting space includes the 15,000-square-foot Atlantic Ballroom. All meeting rooms and public spaces have wireless Internet access.

  • NORMANDY FARM INN & CONFERENCE CENTER has opened after a $30 million transformation in Blue Bell, Pa. The conference facility has more than 30,000 square feet of meeting space in its 17 meeting rooms, two ballrooms, and private terraces. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the property. Three other historic structures on the Normandy Farm estate have been restored and converted into 15 bed-and-breakfast quarters, which were ready for June occupancy. Construction of a 120-room luxury hotel is expected to begin late this year.

  • In Burlington, Vt., the Radisson Burlington Hotel is now the WYNDHAM BURLINGTON HOTEL. After $1.5 million in upgrades, the reflagged hotel, which overlooks the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain, offers 16,000 square feet of meeting space that can accommodate up to 680 people. The hotel has 256 guest rooms.

  • THE MARRIOTT LONDON WEST INDIA QUAY opened last month in London's Canary Wharf business district. The striking 32-story hotel has 301 guest rooms, including 23 suites. The hotel is 10 minutes to London City Airport, and 15 minutes by tube to the West End.
