Sailing requires spirit and a team effort. That's why companies ranging from Cigna to Dr Pepper/7Up have turned to The Corporate Sail-Race Challenge.

After a classroom presentation on the basics, teams take to the water, working closely with sailing instructors.

Then comes the race, where the teams do all the work. Participants rotate positions, so everyone gets to take charge. “The analogies between sailing and business are many,” says Steve Colgate, founder of the Fort Myers, Fla.-based Offshore Sailing School, which runs the program (www.offshore-sailing.com).

The experience, available in Captiva Island, Fla.; the Florida Keys; Jersey City, N.J.; and New York City, costs $225 per person for a four-hour race for groups of eight to 90. Full and multiday programs are also offered.
