Switzerland Invests in Meetings Infrastructure

In anticipation of a global turnaround in meetings business, new and renovated convention and conference facilities have been announced by Barbara Albrecht, manager, Switzerland Convention & Incentive Bureau.

The new Congress Center Davos opened in late 2010 with 34 meeting rooms, including a plenary hall seating 2,000 people. In 2013, the Intercontinental Davos Hotel & Spa will open with 210 rooms.

The Renaissance Zurich Tower Hotel opens in summer 2011 with 252 rooms and 11 meeting rooms.

In summer 2012 in Gstaad, the Grand Hotel Alpina will open with 135 rooms, 35 luxury condos, and three chalets.

The Andermatt Swiss Alps destination resort at the foot of the Gotthard Massif is targeted as a year-round destination with six hotels. The 50-room Chedi Andermatt hotel construction is under way, with opening set for December 2013. Next to begin construction is the Radisson Blu Andermatt hotel, which will open in 2014.
