PAYNE TAKES IT AT PINEHURST The stylish Payne Stewart made it an exciting finish at the U.S. Open, winning by one stroke over Phil Mickelson on Pinehurst's Number 2 course. Some 48 corporate sponsors filled the event's major hospitality tents with customers and guests, while tens of thousands of spectators traipsed along the fairways each day.
This month the Pine-hurst Resort reopens the historic Holly Inn, following a $13 million floor-to-ceiling restoration. The Inn, which originally opened in 1895, has 85 rooms, four executive meeting rooms, a business center, and two restaurants. Guests can take advantage of all of the amenities of Pinehurst, including its eight signature golf courses by Donald Ross, Robert Trent Jones, Ellis Maples, Tom and George Fazio, and Rees Jones. The resort's other properties are the 220-room Carolina and the 46-room Manor Inn. Also available are 10 villas and 135 condos.
