Incentive itineraries often include an annual golf. But there are other ways to put golf on the schedule, many of them geared specifically toward women.
For example, golf coach Suzanne Woo, founder of Golf 101 in Berkeley, Calif., offers a seminar called Establishing Links, designed for women taking up the game as a business tool. She also offers the Stealth Round seminar, which gives salespeople ways to read a client's personality and style over 18 holes, and Protocol for Profits, a primer on golf etiquette.
Woo's seminars will also reach the experienced golfers in a group--golfers like Bonnie Stewart, who has been playing for 30 years. "I've not known whether I should play from the reds or the whites when I'm playing with men," says Stewart, owner of the California Insurance Center in Lafayette, Calif., who attended a Woo seminar recently. "Suzanne said, 'If you're playing business golf, you're there to form a relationship. If you're playing from the reds, you're not talking to them.'" Shortly after, Stewart tried out Woo's advice, playing from the "men's" tees with two senior insurance executives. "I got to know them and they got to know me and my firm," she reports.
