CLC MANAGEMENT SEARCH Known in the meeting industry for its snail-like approach to change, the Convention Liaison Council is now experiencing unexpected growth. So much so that it needs to reexamine its management approach, says Steven Hacker, CAE, chairman of the CLC board and president of the International Association for Exposition Management.
CLC, which represents 26 associations in the meeting, exhibition, and travel industry, appointed The Resource Center for Associations in Wheat Ridge, Colo., as its management firm in November 1997. Since then, CLC's needs have changed dramatically. Anticipation of the APEX project, a meeting industry accepted practices initiative, is a primary factor driving the management search, Hacker says.
In addition, CLC adopted a new governance structure in 1997.
At press time, CLC was gathering proposals from management firms. The organization is also considering hiring an association executive who would build a separate CLC staff. Don't count out The Resource Center just yet--CLC is considering its possible future role.
