IN LAGUNA BEACH, CALIF., Montage Resort & Spa opened in February. The 262-room resort is sited on 30 beachfront acres, and offers a 20,000-square-foot spa, three swimming pools and more than 20,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor meeting space. Montage Resort is 20 minutes from Orange County Airport and 60 minutes from both Los Angeles' and San Diego's international airports.

The 45-story Westin New York at Times Square opened in October featuring 863 guest rooms (including 132 Westin Executive Club rooms and suites with wireless capability) and 32 meeting rooms. The hotel is connected to E Walk, a 200,000-square-foot entertainment and retail complex featuring movie theaters, restaurants, and shops.

After being closed for 15 months at its 57th Street location, the Copacabana has relocated to 560 West 34th St. at 11th Avenue in New York, across from the Jacob Javits Center. The special event and dining facility, which evokes the atmosphere of the supper clubs of the Big Band era, has doubled in size with the move, now featuring enough space to accommodate groups of 50 to 4,500 people.

In Weston, W.Va., Stonewall Resort has been accepted as a member of the International Association of Conference Centers. Stonewall Resort includes a 198-room guest lodge, 10 lakeside cottages, a conference center, fitness center, spa, and 18-hole Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course.

The 32-story, 390-room Trump International Sonesta Beach Resort opened April 4 in Sunny Isles Beach, just north of Miami Beach. It has 22,000 square feet of meeting space, including two ballrooms, each of which can be divided into three.

Hotel Los Gatos opened in November in downtown Los Gatos, Calif., a short drive from San Jose at the base of the Santa Cruz Mountains. All guest rooms in the 72-room property feature T1 Internet access and Egyptian cotton bed linens. There is a fitness center, heated pool and hot tub, and more than 2,000 square feet of meeting space, as well as the on-site Kuleto's Italian Restaurant and a Preston Wynne Spa.

The historic Claremont Resort & Spa in Berkeley, Calif., has just completed a $20 million enhancement project. The hotel has 279 rooms, including 16 suites, and features 25,000 square feet of flexible meeting space in 22 function rooms, many with natural lighting and panoramic views of the San Francisco Bay, accommodating up to 500 attendees.

Wyndham International Inc. will manage the new 156-room oceanfront resort on Vieques Island in Puerto Rico. Wyndham Martineau Bay Resort & Spa is sited on 42 acres on the north shore of the island, overlooking its own private beaches. The resort has a full-service spa and fitness center and a dedicated Meeting House that can accommodate up to 176 people.

On St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, The Ritz-Carlton, St. Thomas completed a major renovation and expansion in December. The $75 million project included 48 new guest rooms and suites; a new restaurant and pool; and a boutique spa, salon, and fitness center. The new guest accommodations are in two villas on the resort's new Coconut Cove beach, and all feature expansive views of Great Bay and the island of St. John. All of the original guest rooms have been renovated in the project. Rooms and suites at the resort now total 200.

In Casablanca, Morocco, Le Meridien Hotels & Resorts will manage Le Meridien Villa d'Anfa, a 120-room property under construction and due to open in the first quarter of 2004. The hotel will have an entrance on the Boulevard Anfa, leading to the Corniche du Gran Casablanca, the famous seaside avenue. There will be a 600-square-foot meeting room and several smaller meeting spaces.

Last October in French Polynesia, Starwood Hotels & Resorts opened Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa, with 84 suite-sized bungalows set over the lagoon and connected by a wooden walkway over the water, and 36 more suites on 16 acres of lush, terraced hillside in a private protected cove. The resort's hilltop Mandara Spa is the only full-service spa on the island.

The 451-room InterContinental Malta opened recently on the island of Malta. The 5-star hotel features 19 meeting rooms and a total of 17,200 square feet of function space. The largest meeting room can seat 740 theater-style. The hotel has a separate entrance for meeting participants, a range of audiovisual equipment, and a fully staffed business center.
