El Conquistador Resort & Country Club is a magnificent 500-acre golf and beach resort encompassing five clusters of luxury accommodations, all with ocean views. It has more than 70,000 square feet of meeting space, a flexible outdoor setting for barbecues and receptions, a casino, and a private island. In 1996, the property hosted the National Governors Association Conference and the Insurance Conference Planners Association Annual Meeting.

Location/Access: San Juan's Luis Munoz Marin International Airport lies 30 miles (approximately 45 minutes) from the resort. Taxi transfers are available at a cost of $80, with the hotel coach priced at $25 each way.

Accommodations: The resort's 918 guest rooms, including its 106 suites, offer individual air-conditioning controls, direct-dial/multi-line telephone with message alert, bathroom phone, two color cable televisions with VCRs, radio, stereo, refrigerator, iron, and hair drier. Rates range in winter from $350 to $545 per night, with summer rates going from $185 to $425.

Recreation: The resort's facilities include six outdoor pools, a 55-slip marina, horseback riding trails, a health club and spa, a golf course, four tennis courts, and more than 28 shops. Its 100-acre private island lies three miles offshore, withswimming and sunbathing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet ski rental, and windsurfing.

Dining: More than 28 restaurants and lounges dot the property, with the new Cassave serving fine continental Latin cuisine; Ciao, specializing in brick-oven pizza; and Ballyhoo, featuring an outdoor raw bar and grill.

Meeting Facilities and Services: The resort's 70,000 square feet of meeting facilities include the Grand Caribbean, which divides into eight rooms. Its Poinsettia ballroom is divisible into three rooms, while the Flamboyan divides into two areas. Four boardrooms are also available, as is a 20,000-square-foot ballroom and prefunction area. The resort can accommodate 2,200 persons theater-style or 2,000 for a banquet, and offers a large array of audiovisual equipment.
