Just a chip shot away from the hotel at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort & Spa (or so say the public relations staff; I'd say it's more like a very long drive), you'll find the Club at Savannah Harbor. A convenient two-minute shuttle ride from the 16-story hotel, the club features the 18-hole Robert Cupp/Sam Snead championship golf course, a clubhouse, a fitness center, and the elegant Greenbrier Spa. A branch of the legendary spa at White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., it even sports the same rhododendron-motif wallpaper. The golf course, playable year-round, is home to the PGA Champions Tour Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.
On Hutchinson Island, the resort is a short water taxi ride from Savannah's bustling River Street, on the opposite shore of the Savannah River, and it's right next door to the Savannah International Trade and Convention Center. The 403-room and -suite hotel has an 11,500-square-foot ballroom among its many meeting spaces. Its Aqua Star restaurant serves the most sumptuous Sunday brunch — presided over by the extraordinary executive chef, Roger Michel — that I've ever seen.
