BestCities Global Alliance has announced Neeta Lachmandas-Sakellariou will serve as chair of the group’s board of directors for 2013. She is assistant chief executive of the Singapore Tourism Board, where she is in charge of the Business Tourism Development, Conventions and Meetings, Exhibitions and Conferences, and Enrichment divisions.
“I am delighted to be given the opportunity to helm the alliance this year,” Lachmandas-Sakellariou says. “Coming from Singapore, where knowledge exchange is a key value proposition for business event organizers and delegates, I look forward to applying some of my own learnings to deliver better results to our clients, and create new business opportunities for our partners.”
Last year, the BestCities Global Alliance introduced a two-stage preliminary member program, which saw the VisitBerlin Convention Office and the Greater Houston Convention & Visitors Bureau simultaneously join the network as full members. This was the first time the alliance had two partners complete the membership process at the same time.
Choose Chicago is currently on the same program as a preliminary member and BestCities will welcome them mid-year as its second American partner.
BestCities 2013 board members, who represent each of the destinations in the alliance, are: Burkhard Kieker, Berlin Convention Office of VisitBerlin; Cheryl Mulder-Verbruggen, Cape Town & Western Cape Convention Bureau; Steen Jacobsen, Wonderful Copenhagen; Karina Lance, Dubai Convention and Events Bureau; Sue Stuart, Marketing Edinburgh; Greg Ortale, Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau; Karen Bolinger, Melbourne Convention Bureau; Neeta Lachmandas-Sakellariou, Singapore Tourism Board and Paul Vallee, Tourism Vancouver.
The alliance is a collection of selected convention and visitor bureaus that meet a high level of service criteria for international meeting planners. Key to the alliance’s business development activities are the BestCities’ Client Workshops, held twice a year, which bring together meeting planners and partners in one location. Melbourne Convention Bureau hosted this year’s first workshop in April; the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau hosts the second in October.
