This June more than 1,400 employees from Astellas Pharma US Inc. took a break from their annual national sales meeting at the Orlando World Center Marriott to undertake a massive corporate social responsibility activity to benefit Give Kids the World, an organization that fulfills wishes for kids with life-threatening illnesses. As part of its mission, the organization runs the Village, a 70-acre resort that features more than 140 villa accommodations, entertainment attractions, and fun activities designed for children with special needs. The Astellas employees swarmed the villas armed with paintbrushes and good intentions, sprucing up the buildings and landscaping, as well as wrapping gifts for the families of the kids the organization serves.

During the sales meeting, the pharma employees decided they wanted to do a bit more, so they developed an impromptu promotion called “Wear Jeans Thursday.” The idea was to reward those who made a gift to GKTW by letting them wear jeans instead of their usual business attire during the meeting. Between individual employee and corporate giving, the total donation to GKTW came to more than $25,000.
