Terri Rojas, CMP, and Ruth M. Glynn, CMP, have formed BostonBased, a meeting and special events management company focusing on medical associations and pharmaceutical companies. Both women formerly served at PRRI, a Boston-based association management company with 25 medical society clients. Rojas was director of meetings and conventions, and Glynn was assistant director of meetings and conventions.
HEALTH CARE ProCom International, one of CommonHealth's two medical education companies, has hired Dean Gianarkis, MS, RPh, as vice president, professional relations. Gianarkis comes to the division from Managed Healthcare Associates-Med Econ of Florham Park, N.J. Also joining the company as vice president, professional relations, is Karen Perrella, who was formerly an account manager at Excerpta Medica in Belle Mead, N.J.
At Meniscus Limited, Karen M. Overstreet, EdD, MS, RPh, ELS, has been appointed executive vice president of the company's educational division, Meniscus Educational Institute. Overstreet will also serve as vice president, strategic development for Meniscus Limited.
John Turturro has joined the New York office of PGI, the international event and communications agency, as director, national pharmaceutical market. Turturro was most recently director of sales at Knoll Pharmaceutical Company, where he worked for 26 years.
CONVENTION CENTERS & BUREAUS Javier F. Santana has been appointed international meetings and incentive sales andmanager at the Orlando/Orange County (Fla.) Convention & Visitors Bureau, Inc. Santana comes to the Orlando CVB from the Grosvenor Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., where he was director of travel industry sales.
Barbara Garcia has been named executive director of the Pasadena Convention & Visitors Bureau, where she has served as interim executive director since June. She has been with the bureau since 1992.
The Washington, DC Convention and Visitors Association has named Ken Slattery national sales manager, a new position created to sell space in the new Washington, DC Convention Center, which will open in March 2003. Slattery was formerly director of sales for the Hilton Washington & Towers and the Capital Hilton.
HOTELS AND TRAVEL At the Sheraton El Conquistador Resort and Country Club in Tucson, Adrienne Williams has been promoted to associate director of sales, responsible for the pharmaceutical market.
Long-time Professional Convention Management Association member Christie Hicks has been named vice president ofsales, North America, for Starwood Hotels & Resorts. In her new position, Hicks will be responsible for the national sales offices. The move, which will be effective at the beginning of October, comes after 14 years with Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, where she was most recently assistant vice president of national sales.
Stephen Weber has been named national sales director, Eastern region, at Dolce International, based in Montvale, N.J. Weber most recently served as director of sales for Harrison Conference Services in Tarrytown, N.Y.
Melisa A. Novick is the new director of sales at Trump International Hotel & Tower, New York, where she was promoted from the position of director of corporate accounts.
Peter J. Bonell has joined Colonial Williamsburg Hotel Properties Inc. as the new vice president of hotel sales and marketing. Bonell was most recently managing director of sales and marketing for Hershey Resorts in Hershey, Pa.
Andy Berger has been named director of sales and marketing for The Lodge & Spa at Cor-
dillera, in Vail Valley, Colo. Previously, Berger worked in sales at The Inn at Aspen.
Barry Wolfert has been named director of sales at the Hilton Lake Lanier Islands Resort, near Atlanta. Wolfert was previously director of sales at the Atlanta office of the Puerto Rico Convention Bureau.
Rachel A. McKenna has been named national sales manager at LaPlaya Beach Resort in Naples, Fla. She will be responsible for sales throughout Washington, D.C., Virginia, and the Midwest. McKenna was most recently sales manager for the Fairmont Hotel Dallas. Also at LaPlaya, Wendy E. Coulson was appointed national sales manager, responsible for sales in the Northeast, including New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Coulson previously was sales manager for the Westin Resort in Hilton Head Island, S.C.
Hilary Rosenthal has been named director of sales at The Colony Beach & Tennis Resort in Longboat Key, Fla. Before joining The Colony, Rosenthal was corporate sales manager for the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, S.C.
