The dates for the 2007 “Greening of the Hospitality Industry” conference—the second meeting of the Green Meetings Industry Council—have been announced. The Portland, Ore.-based group will convene in its headquarters city February 6-8, with the goal of raising the awareness of meeting planners, hotel professionals, and others about practices that can minimize the negative effect of meetings on the environment.

Don’t expect a traditional printed brochure for this event. Practicing what they preach, marketing will be done through e-mail and the Web, and registration will be online. On-site programs will be printed on 100 percent post consumer paper, and working with the host property, Doubletree Hotel and Executive Meeting Center, a variety of other initiatives—from recycling to green cleaning products to local and organic food on the menu—will help create a model for environmentally friendly conferences.

The conference will include tracks for meeting planners and vendors, as well as those new to green meetings and those interested in more advanced topics. The fee is $275 for GMIC members, and $350 for nonmembers. For more information, go to
