The Canadian members of Meeting Professionals International are doing their part to make meeting planning a recognized profession. In partnership with the Convention Centres of Canada, Meeting & Travel Group, and supported by the MPI Foundation Canada, MPI has declared April 6 as National Meetings Industry Day in Canada.
Members from the seven Canadian chapters of MPI will celebrate with a variety of educational and networking activities focusing on the significance of the Canadian meetings industry and the value of meetings to the broader business community. One of the aims is to educate chapter industry leaders and enable them to discuss the economic impact of meetings in their regions with people who are outside of the industry.
New this year will be the presentation of a National Meetings Industry Day Award, which will recognize one person or organization in local communities who has made a difference to the meetings industry but is not actively involved in it.
After National Meetings Industry Day 2006, a white paper of the proceedings will be developed as a catalyst for future discussions on the meetings industry in Canada.
