Recognizing that association planners are struggling to beef up attendance at meetings and trade shows, the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau has recently developed a Digital Marketing Kit that helps promote Chicago as a destination to potential attendees and exhibitors.

The kit contains a CD-ROM with several finished marketing pieces, including print ads, postcards, pre-show promotion banners, and HTML e-mails. It also includes an instructional manual for using the CD. Each of the digital elements can be customized with a group’s name, dates, and contact information.

The kit is a companion piece to the CCTB’s Digital Resource Kit, which provides photographs, maps, illustrations, etc., which that can be incorporated into a group’s existing marketing pieces. The bureau also recently launched a new Web site for planners: www.meetingschicago.com. It contains specific information for attendees of Chicago conventions and trade shows.

"Services that help build attendance are especially important now more than ever," says Deborah Sexton, CCTB executive vice president. "Potential attendees want to make sure that the decision to travel to a convention is a good one–—for both personal and professional reasons."
