You’ve heard it before—"Finally, a new Web site that provides one-stop shopping for all your meeting planning needs." But ConventionPlanit.com, unveiled in June at the Springtime trade show at the Washington Convention Center and scheduled for full launch in September, promises that its site will really deliver the goods.
Developed with the help of an 11-member advisory council of meeting and hospitality professionals, the site is designed to be a comprehensive search engine for not just sites and facilities, but also meeting service providers, industry associations, trade publications, industry calendars, and employment resources. Though the search engine functions aren’t up and running yet, and despite a slightly cutesy outer-space theme, the demo site is clean and easy to navigate. If all goes as planned, it looks like it may live up to its advance billing as an all-around online planning resource.
Even before it goes live, ConventionPlanit is generating interest in the hospitality community as a good way to get in front of meeting planners. It already has signed agreements with Carlson Hotels Worldwide, and many other individual hotels are sniffing around the site’s special advertising opportunities, according to information on the demo site. The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International also gave it a vote of confidence by offering special advertising discounts for its members through an affinity program with the Web site.
