Rhode Island Classic to Be Reborn

The 136-year-old Ocean House hotel in Watch Hill, R.I., opened May 17 after a $140 million top-to-bottom rebuild.

The historic property, on a bluff overlooking its private expanse of Atlantic beach, has 49 guest rooms and 23 private residences, 10,000 square feet of event space, and the 12,000-square-foot OH! Spa.

Highlights of the meeting facilities include the 2,000-square-foot Seaside Ballroom, seating up to 250 theater-style, and a wood-paneled corporate boardroom with a private service entrance and views of Watch Hill Bay. Among the al fresco special-event options are Ocean House’s 1,000 feet of beach and the 6,000-square-foot South Lawn, which can be tented for up to 400 guests.

Amtrak trains and regional air service are available in Westerly, R.I., four miles from the hotel, and T.F. Green Airport in Providence, R.I., is a 45-minute drive.
