One of the challenges around strategic meetings management education has been that so much of it is theoretical, not hands-on. StarCite wants to change that with its new book: Strategic Meetings Management Handbook: From Theory to Practice, released during the Global Business Travel Association’s August annual convention in Denver.
Over the past couple of years, StarCite has assembled a strong group of staff experts and consultants who bring real-life experience to the discipline of SMM, all of whom contributed to the book. Among them:
• Linda J. McNairy, vice president of business development at StarCite, is a former co-chair of GBTA’s Groups and Meetings Committee and one of the driving forces behind the new SMM Maturity Model, which also rolled our at the convention. She wrote a section about maturity of SMMP programs.
• Louann Cashill, manager of strategic projects at StarCite, drew on her years of experience running the meetings department at Toyota to write about driving an SMMP in your company without a mandate.
• Betsy Bondurant, president of Bondurant Consulting and the new co-chair of GBTA’s Groups and Meetings Committee (as well as an occasional contributor to MeetingsNet), used her former experience with Amgen to write about integrating a meeting card into your SMMP.
• One of leading SMM educators—Debi Scholar, president of Scholar Consulting Group—did a section on the new frontier for SMMP: crafting a virtual meeting and event strategy.
The new book is available online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books A Million for just under $15.
