The Westin Gaslamp Quarter, San Diego, completed a $25 million propertywide renovation earlier this year.
All 35,000 square feet of meeting and event space received floor-to-ceiling refreshments. In particular, the new, 5,940-square-foot San Diego Ballroom and adjoining outdoor Garden Terrace now have flex-back banquet chairs and enhanced audiovisual capabilities.
Beginning in spring 2011, the first phase of the remodel saw all 450 guest rooms get a modern redesign, sustainable accents such as CFL lights and solar shades, and new furniture custom designed for Westin. By spring 2012, the hotel’s public spaces also got a new look, including the lobby, lobby lounge, and Pinzimini restaurant and bar. As a finishing touch, San Diego artist Michael Stutz created “Flame Flower,” a 40-foot-tall asymmetrical bouquet made of woven stainless steel pieces, to greet visitors at the front of the property.
