SmithBucklin promoted Carol McGury to head up convention, trade show, and event management services at the company. McGury will also continue in her current role as head of SmithBucklin's Education & Learning Services unit.
McGury, who’s been with the association management company for 25 years, replaces Brad Weaber, who left to join the New Orleans Convention and Visitors Bureau, starting August 1. Her new title is senior vice president, event and education services.
"This is a natural move not only because Carol has gained extensive event experience while serving 20 years as chief staff executive for SmithBucklin client organizations across the business trade, healthcare and technology areas, but also because of her expertise in education and learning," said SmithBucklin President and CEO Henry Givray.
Leslie Thornton, president of SmithBucklin’s Courtesy Associates and head of the D.C. Event Services team, and David Weil, Event Services vice president and head of Chicago event operations, will be part of her senior events team.
