I had some interesting conversation with Roy M. Poses MD, and some of his colleagues for the July/August cover story of Medical Meetings (should be online in a couple of weeks). The story is about ensuring the data you disseminate through CME is as accurate as possible, considering the recent stories about clinical research trial data manipulation and suppression.
If you're as interested in all this as I am, check out the Health Care Renewal blog, authored by Poses and other physicians who have, in his words, "banded together to publicize the external threats to our core values."
He also recently founded a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 organization, the Foundation for Integrity and Responsibility in Medicine. "Its goals are to understand, publicize and address external threats to our core values; and to empower patients and physicians by supporting better governance of health care organizations," says Poses.
If you get outraged, get involved.
