This editorial in USA Today by Ken Johnson, PhRMA's senior vice president is a strong comeback to the
docs calling for a total ban on all gifts to physicians in a recent JAMA article. But, and I hate to say it, coming from the pharmaceutical industry's association, it won't carry a whole lot of weight with the general public.
At the Alliance for CME meeting in San Francisco, there was lots of discussion about how the pharma and CME providers could counter the attack on CME/industry collaboration, including lots of calls for the Alliance to take a stand, maybe do some editorials of its own in USA Today or whatever. But I think it would be much stronger if those in favor of CME/industry collaboration could round up an equally esteemed group of docs to plead their case.
