Welcome to MeetingsNet's 2022 CMI 25 list of the top independent meeting-planning companies.
The companies are selected based on their business volume with the corporate market in North America in the previous year. So, the statistics we report here reflect the 2021 mid-pandemic meeting environment. As eager as organizations were for the return of in-person events, vaccinations were not widely available until the first quarter of 2021 and that summer’s more contagious Delta variant created a second wave of cancellations and last-minute virtual events.
To make this CMI 25 list more accurate and relevant, we gathered information for the first time on the number of hybrid and virtual meetings that applicants produced. That information was considered along with the number of corporate in-person meetings and incentive-travel programs planned, guest rooms booked in conjunction with those meetings and incentives, and staff size (in mid 2022) as we determined the final list.
Read on for an introduction to these major independents, including news of their latest partnerships, acquisitions, and initiatives, plus photos of impactful events. We’ve also asked company executives to comment on the opportunities and challenges ahead.
While their volume of business is far from 2019 levels, the 2022 CMI 25 companies showed an admirable resiliency and creativity as they adapted to the new meeting landscape. Congratulations to an outstanding group.
