Two up-and-coming event professionals will be honored in the Young Professionals category as Pacesetters Award recipients at the 2013 Convention Industry Council Hall of Leaders celebration in Las Vegas October 13, prior to the IMEX America tradeshow.

The gala evening, which has traditionally honored the HOL inductees for lifetime achievements, (see our article about this year’s inductees), will also salute “real time” leaders for the first time—those who are making a difference now and for years to come, according to Karen Kotowski, CAE, CMP, CEO of the CIC.

CIC will be presenting the Pacesetters Awards to Robyn Mietkiewicz, CMP, CMM, director, accounts & global meeting management services, Meeting Sites Resources, Irvine, Calif.; and Meghan Schilt, CMP, events manager, Apax Partners, New York.

This award recognizes individual excellence based on innovation, impact, vision, leadership, influence, collaboration, courage, perseverance, and other achievements.

The first class of Pacesetters was recognized at a luncheon at IMEX America last year. At that time, CIC announced it would roll recognition of the Pacesetters Awards into the same gala that honors lifetime achievement, and that the event would be held annually.

CIC member organizations and the meetings industry at large submitted nominations for both the CIC HOL inductees and the Pacesetters. A selection committee made up of industry leaders and several past Hall of Leaders inductees, a cross-section of the meetings industry, met in March to review the nominations and recommend honorees. The CIC Board of Directors then approved the slate proposed by the committee.

Both Pacesetters Award recipients are active in Meeting Professionals International, particularly in their respective local chapters.
