The Atlantis, Paradise Island, resort in The Bahamas has launched phase one of a $20 million transformation at what is currently known as the Coral Towers. Once all renovations are complete, the 694-room hotel will reopen as The Corals Atlantis, a new modern tower with a focus on meeting attendees and Millennial travelers.
A highlight of the new Corals Atlantis will be the adults-only Blu Pool, as reimagined by interior architect Jeffrey Beers, the same designer who created Cain, the chic adult-only poolscape The Cove. Exclusive to guests of The Corals, the new pool area will be open day and night with cabanas, outdoor dining, and a DJ.
Meeting planners, in particular, will appreciate this renovation, as The Corals Atlantis is steps from the resort’s conference center, which features the 50,000-square-foot Imperial Ballroom, 26 breakout rooms, two boardrooms, and a large staging area.
“From a group perspective, we are excited The Corals will reintroduce Atlantis to our group market segment, because we will now have a hotel that fits the needs of our groups just 100 feet away from our conference facilities,” said Marcy Miles, executive vice president, sales and marketing. The new rooms for The Corals will be designed in “a serene beach vibe,” with modern décor and crisp window treatments.
This initial phase of renovations is slated to be complete by spring 2017, with the lobby and some rooms and guest amenities remaining open and operational during the work. The second phase of renovations will transform the lobby and add a restaurant. Details on those projects are still to come.
Atlantis, Paradise Island, consists of five unique hotels. In addition to The Corals, these are the ultra-luxurious and serene Cove Atlantis, with 600 rooms; The Reef Atlantis, with 497 rooms; the 1,201-room Royal Towers; and the casual and relaxed Beach Tower, with 423 rooms. The Corals will be the most centrally located of the accommodations, connected to the Atlantis Conference Center, Casino, and Marina Village.
The resort is built around a 141-acre waterscape comprised of fresh and saltwater lagoons, pools, and habitats. It is the the largest open-air marine habitat in the world, with 50,000 marine animals. Dolphin Cay, the resort’s interaction and education center, was created with the goal of enlightening visitors about these remarkable ocean inhabitants.
