Why is it so hard to make meetings interesting?

Johnnie Moore poses an interesting question: "Go into any pub and you'll see how easy it is for us human beings to organise enlivening meetings. How come we make it seem so hard in our offices?"

If you have the answer, we'd all love to hear it. I think it has something to do with the difference between it being your choice or forced upon you, mixed with a bit of entertainment versus education (or whatever the business purpose of the meeting is). Doesn't mean the twain can't meet, though.
