After years of construction, the Albany Capital Center in downtown Albany, N.Y., held a ribbon-cutting last week to celebrate the completion of the downtown $78.5 million dollar convention center.
SMG, which will provide management services for the building, has announced that 62 events are on the books for 2017, representing 3,750 room nights for the city. The first convention will be the New York State Council for Social Studies, a four-day, 450-attendee conference beginning March 22.
The Albany Capital Center is the newest piece of the Capital Complex. Together with the Empire State Plaza Convention Center, operated by the New York State Office of General Services; The Egg, a performing arts center; and the Times Union Center, a sports and special event arena the Complex is now the largest meeting and event facility in upstate New York, with nearly 160,000 square feet of space. The four venues, as well as the Renaissance Albany Hotel, are all connected via enclosed walkway.
Highlights of the new Albany Capital Center include
• a 22,500 square foot ballroom/convention space with 26-foot ceilings
• 9,200 square feet of meeting space in up to six rooms
• a wireless technology network that can support 5,000 guests.
