May is a busy month for the American Society of Association Executives, which has three events scheduled back-to-back-to-back—the Association International Conference, Springtime Expo, and the Springtime DC Golf and Tennis Invitational.

This is the second year that the Association International Conference (May 14–16), will be co-located with the Springtime Expo (May 16). Registrants can attend both, to be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C., for one fee.

The Association International Conference is designed for association executives looking to expand their reach into international markets. Keynote speaker Jeff Jorge, executive partner of Global Development Partners, will speak about how associations can effectively structure themselves and their services for a more diverse global community.

New this year is a conference within a conference for attendees seeking in-depth strategic discussion. “Sustainability and Growth in Global Operations” will provide participants a chance to collaborate with their peers and explore how to grow their organizations’ international presence, review and enhance their current business model, and assess new partnership opportunities.

The conference leads right into the largest one-day trade show for the association meetings industry—ASAE’s Springtime Expo. More than 300 exhibitors and almost 4,000 attendees are expected.

Before the show floor opens, ASAE will present two blocks of education sessions, on topics such as green meetings ROI, event budget forecasting, and an always-popular contracting breakout featuring attorney Jonathan Howe, president, Howe and Hutton, and Dave Scypinski, senior vice president, ConferenceDirect.

Springtime also offers the Certified Meeting Professional Celebration Breakfast, which will feature a panel discussion on “Meetings Management Amid Catastrophe.” Panelists will talk about their experiences with real-life disasters, sharing tips and lessons learned. Panelists include Amy Doherty, senior vice president, Aon Association Services; Amy Ledoux, CMP, CAE, senior vice president, meetings and expositions, ASAE; Bob Mellinger, president, Attainium Corp.; and Kimberly Miles, senior vice president, industry relations, American Hotel & Lodging Association. The CMP breakfast is open to Springtime attendees and exhibitors who have a CMP designation.
The closing general session speaker for both Springtime and the Association International Conference is Jim Ziolkowski, founder, president, and CEO, of buildOn, an organization that mobilizes youth to build up their communities. He will share business lessons and personal stories of motivation and determination, and explain how “creating the spark within” can lead to bigger results.

After Ziolkowski, the trade show floor will be open from 12:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

On May 17, the ASAE Foundation hosts the Annual Springtime DC Golf and Tennis Invitational at the Lansdowne Resort in Leesburg, Va.
